Invalidation & reassignment

VAT legislation changes and eClear's taxonomy reflects these changes. As a result some product classes might cease to be valid and new product classes are created. In case your product is assigned to a product class that is not valid anymore no eager invalidation takes place. Instead, invalidation takes place when you request a VAT rate for this product and we cannot derive a VAT rate from eClear's taxonomy anymore. In this case, we find the closest valid product class and use that in the assignment. As a result, the assignment has the status REJECTED.

Reassignment after invalidation

Once invalidated, the assignment follows the usual assignment process. You search for a product class in the taxonomy and use the ASSIGN action to associate the product with it:

  • If the product class suffices to find VAT rates for all supported countries, the assignment moves to APPROVED and VAT rate retrieval from eClear's taxonomy is restored.
  • If the product class does not suffice for all supported countries, the assignment remains REJECTED. You can come back later and repeat the process once you are ready to decide on a suitable product class.

Until the assignment is APPROVED, VAT rate requests for this product return the standard country rate as a fallback (you can customize this behaviour, Configuring VAT rate requests).
